Saturday, May 31: New Egypt Speedway, NJ

Not to be pessimistic, but the race this past weekend was quite a downer. Rain of course delayed the start of the show and made for an extremely rough race track. More upsetting though was undiagnosed car troubles. Following the heat race in which I dropped from 2nd to 8th, my tachometer read that the motor was only turning 6,600rpm when it was geared for 8,100rpm. After checking the engine, inspecting the spark plugs, etc., we changed a jet and a gear to see if it would make a difference. Unfortunately, there was no difference in the car's performance. During a red flag on lap 3 in the feature, my tachometer only read 6,500rpm. Because the car wasn't turning near enough rpm's, I pulled off the track and did not finish the race.

After the Sunday car wash and "dissecting" the car further, dad noticed that the fuel pump might need a rebuild. In an effort to leave no stone unturned, our engine builder Bob Wirth is shipping us a fuel pump AND ignition box from California to arrive tomorrow morning. (Keep your fingers crossed!) Hopefully this will solve the problem and we'll be good to go for ARDC's 3 races in a row!

Tomorrow night we'll be at Grandview Speedway, Wednesday at Williams Grove, and Thursday at Big Diamond-all with the USAC wingless sprints. It should make for an exciting and busy 3 days. I know some of you are planning on attending some of the shows. Please be sure to stop by and say hi.
