Tuesday, June 3rd: Grandview Speedway, PA
The new fuel pump and ignition box arrived as planned this morning; in plenty of time for us to install them before heading to the track. Warm-ups confirmed that our mechanical problem from Saturday WAS fixed. Because we changed two components at once, we're not sure of the cause of the problem, but we feel confident in thinking it was the fuel pump. Either way, we were able to run a strong, solid warm up that gave us a true sense of what changes needed to be made.
36 midgets signed in for competition with ARDC-the largest car count yet this year!! I started pole in the first of 3 heat races. Tracy Readinger, who started on the outside pole, got a nice jump on the initial start. I finished a comfortable 2nd and therefore transferred directly into the A-main.
After some very exciting side-by-side action in the remaining heat races and B-mains for both ARDC and the USAC wingless midgets, there was a rain delay that ultimately postponed the rest of the show. The USAC make-up feature will be part of next year's Grandview schedule, but the ARDC make-up feature will be booked this season in the near future. I'll be sure to keep you posted.
A BIG thank you to all the fans, family, and friends who came to support us and/or sent their well wishes. We had quite the cheering section-and many "Stephanie Stevens" t-shirts walking around! Tomorrow night we'll be Williams Grove (weather permitting) and Thursday at Big Diamond-both with the USAC wingless sprints again. Maybe I'll see some of you again in the next two days!
